There will be a number of servers that would operate as a primary system for all of the essential features and capabilities that the building needs in order to work properly. In the 4 Story Building, the servers located here will be the primary choice whereas they can go to the servers at the 3 Story Building. There are 4 servers – all using a 1U rack server which will allow for an easy and efficient means of workings.
Network Server
The network server will be how internet and the LAN? is managed. Every residence will go from the patch panel to the switch(es). From the switch, they will plug into one of the 4 RJ45 ports in a NIC (Network Interface Connection) card. This card will provide for the network services such as connecting the LAN together, manage wifi? network, and so on. The LAN addresses will be 192.168.floor.xxx. This will make it easier to identify the networks in place. The server will also have 2 onboard NICs. These NICs will plug into the FiOS? connection, and the Satellite Internet connection at the same time. If the FiOS goes down for any reason, then the satellite internet will be used to take over until FiOS is back online.
The network server will be the most important server. Without the network server, there will be no way there could be a connection grid – either internet, or local. The ethernet jacks in your walls will mean nothing without a network server. Devices such as public security cameras will also need to be accessible by all of the LANs. the cameras in your residence is restricted to just your LAN, so there is no issue in worrying about that.
Surveillance Server
There will be 5U rack server that would hold up to 20 drives. I will maximize the drives to 44TB drives when purchasing drives. This surveillance server will allow every resident to view footage in the common spaces. They will also be given access to their cameras in their residence. As noted, there will be no cameras in private spaces such as bathrooms, or bedrooms.
VPN Server
Built into the network server will be software for a VPN? server. When I am not home, I will connect my PC to the internet through a pocket router. This router will have my VPN credentials included, and anytime I connect to this router, I will connect to my VPN server. Since I will be seeking static IP addresses, I will be able to acquire a domain? to then host the VPN connection. Obviously, I will have a user name, and password, but all of this is done to give me full access to my home network when I am not home.
