Why No Coaxial?

Coaxial is the small round jack you plug your television into. So, why will there be none beyond the communications closet? I feel that coaxial should be considered as legacy. They are supported, but should be used minimally. With that said, there will be 6 RJ45 jacks on the TV wall which will be used to provide connections. Since there is no coaxial, I will use a Tablo which will connect to a coaxial in the communications closet for the antenna. The Tablo app will then install on the TV, and anytime I wish to watch local channels, I will use the Tablo app.

You might now be asking what about cable TV? Well, the cable TV service from Verizon or Xfinity is way too expensive for my tastes. Instead, I will be using Sling which is an IPTV? service. This service will not be as feature rich as cable TV services, but will give me all of the channels I wish to watch, and at a $50/month price tag. Since there is no coaxial jack beyond the communications closet, there will be 6 ethernet jacks on the TV Walls. Below might be a realistic example of what will be connected.

  1. TV (if smart)
  2. Apple TV
  3. Microsoft XBox
  4. Sony Playstation
  5. Blu-Ray player
