Basement

The basement will not be thought of much, but will be important nonetheless. The basement will have the laundry room, the elevator room for the common elevator, utilities in, and storage. The basement will be smaller than the other floors because the garage space on floor 1 will force a slab space below it. The basement will be mostly used for the storage space, and the laundry room.

While both units has a single load washer/dryer combinations, there will be 2 double load washers, and 2 double load dryers in the laundry room of the basement. This will be especially good when washing blankets, and bedding. All of the machines are paid laundry machines to help cover the cost of the water bill.

The elevator room will be located on the back side of the common elevator. There will obviously be the elevator machine, but there will also be an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) which will connect the elevator to the maintenance company in the case that the elevator should stop working. An active line must be provided, and that line will use the internet connections to make the call.

The electrical room will have a collection of battery banks installed. Since I use so little electricity, I am sure that my battery banks can fill up while I will use some of that at night. During the day, I almost never need to turn on the lights, and rarely watch TV. Most of my activity will be for using the computer which is a much smaller screen than the TV. All electricity will flow from the battery bank for safety reasons. Each unit will have 2 banks, one of which will only be used in the event of a power outage.

There will be a communications room which will handle all of the connectivity resources for the entire building. This will include patch panels, network switches, a couple of servers, and a network server. There will be 2 internet lines which will operate in a way where the lesser connection will be a failover in case the primary better connection was to go down. The network server will have a NIC (Network Connection Interface) card which will have 4 ethernet ports. The server will also have 2 built in ethernet ports. The built-ins will be the WAN (internet), and the card will be LAN (internal networks). I will use a VPN to access my personal network when I am not home.

Water will come into the basement. All lines will be color coded to help a plumber know which pipe they are dealing with. Since the basement will likely not freeze, there is minimal chance for the pipes to freeze. All pipes will run through interior walls to not freeze. In addition, most endpoints will have a shutoff valve. For example, an overflown toilet will need to shut off at the toilet until a plumber can address the issue.
